" HIS Delight "

Psalm 149:4   " For the LORD taketh pleasure in HIS people: HE will beautify the meek with Salvation. "
What is it that brings you inner delight: the love of family and friends, the beauty of GOD's creation, the work of GOD's SPIRIT in the lives of those for whom you have prayed, the LORD HIMSELF, or a host of other things ? Our lists could probably be almost endless with each new day and every new and pleasant experience. Have you ever stopped for a moment and thought about what brings delight to your Heavenly FATHER ? Does it surprise you to think of GOD as being pleased or delighted ?
The WORD of GOD records some of the specifics of those things that delight our LORD, and it might amaze us to learn that our GOD delights in us. I love the words to Israel in Isaiah: "The LORD delighteth in thee" (Isaiah 62:4). In today's text, two causes are assigned as to why the saints should be excited to praise the LORD and be joyful in their KING: the delight that HE has in HIS saints (the meek) and the gracious designs that HE has toward HIS saints. Is it possible that GOD also delights in our way (Psalm 37:23) ? Adam Clarke suggests that "when [one's] steps are ordered by the LORD, HE delighteth in his way, because it is that into which HIS OWN good SPIRIT has directed him." GOD also loves to hear us pray and takes delight in our prayers, for Solomon, by the SPIRIT of GOD, assures us that "the prayer of the upright is [the LORD's] delight" (Proverbs 15:8).
Finally, Jeremiah informs us that the LORD delights in our personal knowledge of HIM (Jeremiah 9:24). It is this intimate understanding of HIM and HIS will that HE prizes the most, for it is that which enables us to bring HIM glory. Let us, like Paul, make it our goal to please HIM (2nd.Corinthians 5:9). Remember, the LORD delights in HIS people. JED

" GOD Made Everything "

Genesis 1:1-31   " In the beginning GOD created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the SPIRIT of GOD moved upon the face of the waters. And GOD said, Let there be light: and there was light. And GOD saw the light, that is was good: and GOD divided the light from the darkness. And GOD called the light Day, and the darkness HE called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
And GOD said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And GOD made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And GOD called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. And GOD said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And GOD called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called HE Seas: and GOD saw that it was good.
And GOD said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose see was in itself, after his kind: and GOD saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day. And GOD said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And GOD made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: HE made the stars also. And GOD set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day the over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and GOD saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And GOD said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And GOD created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and GOD saw that it was good. And GOD blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. And GOD said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And GOD said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So GOD created man in HIS OWN image, in the image of GOD created HE him; male and female created HE them. And GOD blessed them, and GOD said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And GOD said, BEHOLD, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And GOD saw every thing that HE had made, and BEHOLD, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. "
Some believe that the most important verse in Scripture is Genesis 1:1. Seven words in Hebrew and ten in English express this foundational truth: GOD created everything. What follows in the Bible from Genesis 1:2 to the end in Revelation 22:21 expands upon that remarkably profound declaration in the opening verse of Scripture. GOD made the atoms and molecules that compose everything. HE made the massive planets and stars we observe in the sky. HE ordained the orbital courses they take, and HE sustains them. HE made the massive structures of the mountains, and HE filled the vast seas on our planet. HE has even ordained the very ages of human history since the sixth day of the creation week. GOD is sovereign over and above all things, as the opening verse of Scripture declares. Though a personal GOD, HE is completely separate from HIS creation. HE alone is the CREATOR, and we are merely the creatures.
The Bible teaches that the LORD made mankind as the pinnacle of HIS creation. Of everything, even including the angelic orders, man alone exists as GOD's image bearer (v.27). As a result, GOD created Adam to have  "dominion" (v.28). He was to rule over GOD's earthly realm. Yet obviously, something horrible has happened that removed Adam and his descendants from this exalted position (Genesis 3:1-6). Today, many do not recognize the devastating consequences of this one act of rebellion. But GOD provided the solution to this situation (Genesis 3:15), fulfilled when JESUS CHRIST died on Calvary's cross. One day, the  "last Adam"  will return and reclaim what is rightfully HIS (1st.Corinthians 15:45-58) because HE, as the sinless GOD-MAN, conquered sin and death ! GDF

" Destroyed Foundations "

Psalm 11: 1-7   " In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain ? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do ?
The LORD is in HIS holy temple, the LORD's throne is in Heaven: HIS eyes behold, HIS eyelids try, the children of men. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence HIS soul hateth. Upon the wicked HE shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; HIS countenance doth behold the upright. "
King David asked the vital question:  "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do ?" (v.3). He had seen  "the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart" (v.2). Those who hated righteousness, godliness, and justice sought to attack those who attempted to live upright lives. What is a righteous person to do when the foundations are destroyed ? What is he to do when the very foundations of our nation are being viciously attacked, when the Constitution is being overruled, and when those who live by the WORD of GOD are being ridiculed and suffer for righteousness' sake ?
David, a man after GOD's own heart, said that  "in the LORD put I my trust" (v.1). He committed his life into the hands of GOD and took refuge in his LORD - not in his circumstances. He placed his confidence in the ETERNAL ONE. He knew JEHOVAH was the supreme, sovereign LORD WHO sits upon HIS heavenly throne (v.4). The GOD of justice would administer justice upon all. "HIS eyes behold, HIS eyelids try, the children of men" (v.4), and "the LORD trieth the righteous" (v.5). But those who are "the wicked and him that loveth violence HIS soul hateth" (v.5). The wicked are HIS enemies. Judgment day will come, and their punishment will be fitting. This is "the portion of their cup" (v.6); it is exactly what they deserve. And what justice will be given to the righteous ?  "The righteous LORD loveth righteousness; HIS countenance doth behold the upright" (v.7). HIS face is turned in pleasure upon them. Even when the foundations are destroyed, the righteous have an unshakable foundation in their LORD ! PNF

" Answered Prayer "

1st. John 5:10-16   " He that believeth on the SON of GOD hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not GOD hath made HIM a liar; because he believeth not the record that GOD gave of HIS SON. And this is the record, that GOD hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in HIS SON. He that hath the SON hath life; and he that hath not the SON of GOD hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the SON of GOD; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the SON of GOD. And this is the confidence that we have in HIM, that if we ask any thing according to HIS will, HE heareth us: and if we know that HE hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of HIM. If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. "
What constitutes answered prayer ? Usually we thank the LORD for answered prayer when HE says  "Yes"  to a request. Of course, nothing is wrong with that - in fact, a lack of thankfulness is s serious matter (Romans 1:21). But it is easy to forget that GOD does not always answer "Yes" to our prayers. Sometimes GOD, in HIS infinite wisdom, will answer  "No,"  knowing that our request is not in accordance with HIS perfect will. At other times, HIS answer to a particular petition may be  "Wait a while." We must realize that GOD's denial of our requests ought not to shake our faith in HIM nor disappoint us. Why ? Because only GOD knows the future, and only HE can adequately distinguish between our needs and out wants. The LORD knows when we  "ask amiss" (James 4:3). We can always be sure that whether GOD says  "Yes," "No," or "Wait"  to our petition, HE has indeed answered our prayer; therefore, we should thank our loving FATHER for responding to our request according to HIS will. Keep in mind, though, that harbored sin will hinder our prayer from even being heard (Psalm 66:18).
Our text today is crucial because it explains how a believer can have assurance of eternal life (vv.10-13) and gives the basis upon which the child of GOD can make his prayers with confidence (vv.14-15) -  "If we ask any thing according to HIS will."  But what about those times when we face complex problems and simply do not know how to pray regarding a certain situation ? Romans 8:26-27 promises the HOLY SPIRIT's help in praying according to the FATHER's will, for the SPIRIT intercedes accordingly. The LORD so wonderfully provides (Philippians 4:19) ! May we be thankful for answered prayer. MHR
