" Seasons "

Genesis 1:14   " And GOD said,  ' Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:' "
When GOD created the heavens and the earth, HE purposely positioned the heavenly bodies as measurements of time, including seasons.  The writer of Ecclesiastes observed these seasons and times, which direct every area of our lives:  " To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:  A time to be born, and a time to die;  a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;  A time to kill, and a time to heal;  a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh;  a time to mourn, and a time to dance;  A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;  a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;  a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;  A time to rend, and a time to sew;  a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate;  a time of war, and a time of peace " (Eccl.3:1-8).  My garden is a vivid illustration of the need to observe these divinely created seasons.  The season of planting is passed as of this writing, and my labors are largely devoted to watering and weeding.  Within the next week or two we will begin to harvest.  In October, the shorter days and crisp nights will terminate the harvest, with the exception of our persimmon tree which continues until the Thanksgiving season.
Though GOD has given reminders in nature of the importance of observing seasons, many fail to perceive the spiritual parallel.  Jeremiah recorded in his day the tragic blindness of the people to this obvious fact.  " The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved " (Jer.8:20).  Turn to GOD while the seasons of life remain.
