" Healing for a Hurting World "

Luke 4:16-22   " And HE came to Nazareth, where HE had been brought up: and, as HIS custom was, HE went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.  And there was delivered unto HIM the book (scroll) of the prophet Esaias (Isaiah).  And when HE had opened the book, HE found the place where it was written,  ' The SPIRIT of the LORD is upon ME, because HE hath anointed ME to preach the Gospel to the poor;  HE hath sent ME to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering the sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the LORD.'  And HE closed the book (scroll), and HE gave it again to the minister (attendant), and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on HIM.  And HE began to say unto them,  'This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears.'  And all bare HIM witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of HIS mouth.  And they said,  Is not this Joseph's son ? "

   People are hurting all over the world.  Physical pain, spiritual misery, mental anguish, emotional wounds, and suffering of every kind are experienced by everyone regardless of race, nationality, language, skin color, or religious belief. Sin is the original cause of this condition. "Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" (Romans 5:12).  But this hopeless condition was remedied by JESUS CHRIST WHO is the exclusive cure.  "For as by one man's disobedience (Adam) many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (JESUS) shall many be made righteous" (Romans 5:19).

     When JESUS began HIS public ministry, HE was handed the scroll of Isaiah, and HE found the place that prophesied of HIM (Isaiah 61:1-2a).  These are the words HE read: "The SPIRIT of the LORD is upon ME, because HE hath anointed ME to preach the Gospel to the poor;  HE hath sent ME to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised..." (vv.18-19).  This is why JESUS came from heaven, was born in a manger in Bethlehem, and lived among HIS people as GOD in human flesh.  HE not only helped people physically but also spiritually.  As the ANOINTED ONE of GOD, HE proclaimed the Good News to those who were spiritually poor, wretched, and miserable.  HE came to heal those whose lives were shattered by sin.  HE came to set free those who were in bondage to sin and the devil, to give spiritual sight to the blind, to release those who were bruised and broken (Isaiah 53:4-5).  JESUS alone is the spiritual healing for a hurting world.
