Matthew 23:34-39 "Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not ! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see ME henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is HE that cometh in the name of the LORD."
During the LORD JESUS CHRIST's earthly ministry, multitudes of people missed out on the blessings and comfort that only HE could give. This reality caused JESUS to weep (v.37). HIS countrymen could have found in HIM everything they needed: forgiveness, salvation, peace, rest, satisfaction, and the blessings of the promised kingdom. HE came as their MESSIAH, and HE offered HIMSELF as their KING -- but HE was rejected on both counts. HE invited them to come unto HIM, and they would not. Wonderful blessings that could have benefited them so much were lost due to their refusal to accept what CHRIST freely offered (Matthew 11:28-30 pictured above; John 10:24-30).
Today, nearly 2,000 years later, the multitudes are making the same mistake. Oppressed, restless, and spiritually and morally bankrupt, our world desperately seeks satisfaction and comfort by looking in all the wrong places. Some expect answers and solutions through politics, technological or scientific discoveries, or changes in the economic and social systems of the world. Others base their false hopes on a "one world government" or a "one world religion." But all such efforts by fallible men will fail.
By contrast, all who come to JESUS CHRIST and receive HIM as their SAVIOR are guaranteed that HE is able and willing to meet every need -- now and throughout eternity (Philippians 4:19 pictured above). What a privilege it is for us today to be able to point others to JESUS CHRIST WHO saves, keeps, and satisfies. And, how important it is for each of us who have come to CHRIST to experience the peace and joy that HE alone can impart in every situation (John 16:33 pictured above). Do not miss out on what JESUS CHRIST has already provided for you. MHR
Your servant in CHRIST,
