1st.Peter 3:1-6 "Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands: that, if any obey not the WORD, they also may without the WORD be won by the conversation (conduct) of the wives; while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of GOD of great price.
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in GOD, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement (terror)."
Sara's journey, with GOD, began many centuries ago when she left the "...Ur of Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan..." (Genesis 11:31). Little did she know that her remarkable life would touch so many. She only had one child, Isaac, and she was ninety years old when he was born.
The LORD said of Sara, "...I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her" (Genesis 17:16). Think about the lineage of Sara and of all the greats who were descendants of her. What the LORD began in her life is continuing today.
In out text, we are told of something else the LORD began with Sara. He began a line of godly women that HE calls "Sara's Daughters."
Our nation's history has witnessed many women's movements come and go. Some have helped women, and some have hurt women.
What the LORD began with Sara has helped women all through human history. Who are the "Daughters of Sara," and what do they believe and stand for ?
1. They Believe that the LORD has a Plan for Every Life.
1st.Peter 3:5a "For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in GOD..."
The LORD had a plan for Sara's life. HE has a plan for ALL women.
GOD wants ALL women to know HIM. "...who trusted in GOD..." Genesis 3:5a "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness." (Genesis 15:6). Sara came to CHRIST the same way Abraham came to CHRIST, by faith. 1st.John 5:13 says, "The things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the SON of GOD; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the SON of GOD."
Do you know CHRIST as your personal SAVIOR ?
HE wants ALL women to know and do HIS will. Genesis 17:16a says, "And I will bless her..." The LORD wants to bless women. It is possible to live a GOD-blessed life. The secret to having GOD's richest blessing is to surrender to HIM. Give your life to do GOD's will, and GOD will bless you.
Do you believe the LORD has a plan for your life ? Are you willing to surrender to follow it ? The "Daughters of Sara" believe that the LORD has a plan for their life, and they are willing to surrender to it.
2. They Believe that They are to "Adorn Themselves" with the Beauty of the LORD.
1st.Peter 3:5b, "For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in GOD, adorned themselves..." The daughters of Sara have discovered the true beauty of the LORD.
It is NOT physical beauty. 1st.Peter 3:3 says, "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;" Thank the LORD that HE made women beautiful on the outside, but that is not where the beauty of the LORD is found.
True beauty is found on the inside. 1st.Peter 3:4 says, "But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of GOD of great price."
All women look different on the outside (unless they are identical twins), but all women can have the same beauty of the LORD on the inside. "...the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit..."
Meekness is not weakness, "...a meek...spirit..." Numbers 12:3 says, "Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth." Moses was a meek man, but he was not a weak man. Paul reminds us of the "...the meekness and gentleness of CHRIST..." in 2nd.Corinthians 10:1a
The LORD JESUS was not weak.
Sara was a meek woman. She had a gentle strength. Quiet is not silence "...a...quiet spirit..."
Ecclesiastes 9:17 says, "The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools." (Also read Proverbs 1:33, 17:1; Ecclesiastes 4:6).
It is in a quiet spirit that we commune with GOD. Sara understood the importance of quietness. The world may have been coming apart on the outside, but on the inside, there was a peace and quiet.
1st.Peter 3:5c says"...being in subjection unto their own husbands."
This sounds hard for women. We must first remember that a woman is a type of the church, in the home, and a picture of the HOLY SPIRIT.
Her role in marriage is to demonstrate the church in subjection to CHRIST. 1st.Peter 3:6a says, "Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord..." Other verses to help understand this powerful truth are Ephesians 5:22-24 and Colossians 3:18.
The LORD has given wives a guiding spirit. 1st.Timothy 5:14 says, "I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully." A woman's spirit is much stronger than a man's spirit.
She can control a home with her spirit for the good or the bad. The Bible says, "It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, then with a brawling woman in a wide house . . . It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman." (Proverbs 21:9,19).
She can create a presence of CHRST with her spirit. 1st.Peter 3:4 says, "But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of GOD of great price."
The "Daughters of Sara" know how to use their spirit for good !
Your servant in CHRIST,
Julie
