John 13:36-14:4 "Simon Peter said unto HIM, LORD, whither goest THOU ? JESUS answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow ME now; but thou shalt follow ME afterwards. Peter said unto HIM, LORD, why cannot I follow THEE now ? I will lay down my life for THY sake. JESUS answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for MY sake ? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied ME thrice. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in GOD, believe also in ME. In MY FATHER's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto MYSELF; that where I AM, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know."
In these difficult days in which we live, we not only can find comfort by believing in GOD, that is, exercising complete confidence and faith in the PERSON, work, and WORD of our LORD, but we also can take heart in the knowledge and assurance that JESUS CHRIST will return to catch us away from this world and bring us to the heavenly abode of GOD the FATHER. In today's text, JESUS disclosed some information to HIS followers that had never before been revealed to mankind. HE told the disciples that HE would return to receive them to HIMSELF -- HE would come for them and take them to HIS FATHER's house (John 14:2-3 pictured above). JESUS revealed the reality of the Rapture !
Previously in HIS ministry, the LORD JESUS focused on HIS coming to Earth to establish HIS Millennial Kingdom. But at this point, the Jewish nation clearly had rejected HIS offer of the kingdom. Now, the disciples would become the foundational building blocks of a new creation, the church. Therefore, rather than telling these believers HE would return to Earth to reign with them, JESUS informs them HE will return for them; at a later time, they would come back with CHRIST to rule and reign. Paul elaborates upon JESUS' coming for HIS saints in 1st.Thessalonians 4:13-18, pictured above, but notice verse eighteen of that text where the Apostle exhorts Christians to "comfort one another with these WORDs." As believers, we would find it impossible to enjoy peace in this life if we knew that the world in which we live, with all of its troubles, was our final stop. No, we must remember that our SAVIOR is coming again for us. Today, we can find comfort in the knowledge of CHRIST's imminent return. Are we looking for HIM ? MDC
