"GOD IS: Truth"

 

1st.John 5:20 "And we know that the SON of GOD is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know HIM that is true, and we are in HIM that is true, even in HIS SON JESUS CHRIST. This is the true GOD, and eternal life."

     Today's text is one of many that describe GOD as "true." No one except the LORD HIMSELF can claim to be absolute truth. Positively, truth has been defined as "that attribute by virtue of which GOD sees all things as they really are." In other words, the LORD is never deceived; HE never lacks knowledge or information about anything or anyone. Negatively, Noah Webster defined truth as "purity from falsehood." Our wonderful GOD, by HIS very nature, is pure from all that is untrue; hence, everything HE does and says is consequently free from anything that is false.

     GOD manifests HIS truth (or trueness) to HIS creation in three ways: First, HE is true in that HE is the only genuine GOD. Scripture, including today's text, repeatedly describes our heavenly FATHER as the "true GOD" as opposed to all false deities. Second, GOD is truth in that HE and HIS actions are without any error or contradiction. Psalm 19:9 tells us, "The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether." John 7:18, referring to JESUS CHRIST, says, "He that seeketh HIS glory that sent HIM, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in HIM." Third, GOD is true in that HE is the source and basis of all truth. Therefore, every WORD that proceeds from the mouth of GOD is entirely void of error. In HIS prayer to the FATHER, JESUS declared, "THY WORD is truth" (John 17:17). The prophet Samuel also recognized that GOD's WORD is true (2nd.Samuel 7:28 pictured above) as did the psalmist of old (Psalm 119:160 pictured above). As believers today, we can be fully confident that our LORD -- and everything HE has declared -- is entirely free from error. HE is truth, and all HIS WORDs, the Holy Scriptures, are completely trustworthy ! MDC
