Psalm 118:21-29 "I will praise THEE: for THOU hast heard me, and art become my salvation. The STONE which the builders refused is become the HEAD STONE of the corner. The is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I beseech THEE, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech THEE, send now prosperity. Blessed be HE that cometh in the name of the LORD; we have blessed YOU out of the house of the LORD. GOD is the LORD, which hath showed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. THOU art my GOD, and I will praise THEE; THOU art my GOD, I will exalt THEE. O give thanks unto the LORD; for HE is good: for HIS mercy endureth for ever."
"The STONE which the builders refused is become the HEAD STONE of the corner" (v.22). This Messianic passage is quoted five time in the New Testament (Matthew 21:42; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17; Acts 4:11; 1st.Peter 2:4,7); it speaks of a rejected STONE (JESUS CHRIST) WHO become the most exalted and preeminent STONE of the building. Peter explains this transformation from rejection to exaltation: "Be it known unto all. . .that by the name of JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth, WHOM ye crucified, WHOM GOD raised from the dead, even by HIM doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the STONE which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the HEAD of the corner" (Acts 4:10-11). Both the death and the resurrection of CHRIST are in view. JESUS was the rejected STONE, and HIS FATHER, through the resurrection, has made HIM the HEADSTONE of the corner. The believing heart can only respond in one way: "This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" (v.23). This leads to the next verse: "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (v.24). While we should rejoice in every day GOD gives us, this verse refers to a special day -- the day of CHRIST's resurrection, which has made new life in CHRIST and a new standing in grace available to all. Each Sunday should be a reminder of the glorious work of GOD in raising HIS SON and exalting HIM as HEAD over a new body and building, HIS church (Ephesians 1:19-23 pictured above). May the LORD's Day never lose its marvel and wonder ! GWZ
