Psalm 11:1-7 " In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain ? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do ? The LORD is in HIS Holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: HIS eyes behold, HIS eyelids try, the children of men. The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence HIS soul hateth. Upon the wicked HE shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; HIS countenance doth behold the upright. "
Recent revelations of widespread corruption in primary government agencies and changes in the foundational moral fabric of our nation have caused many to ask: " Pastor, what is a Bible-believing Christian to do? " The question is not unique to our day but was voiced to the psalmist 3,000 years ago in the latter days of the corrupt governmental practices of King Saul. The jealous king was unjustly pursuing David, and the morning news was full of accounts of Saul's treacherous attempts to trap and kill righteous David. The counsel given to the psalmist was startling: " How say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain ? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do ?" (vv.1-3). David's response was firm and straightforward: " In the LORD put I my trust " (v.1). David continued to pursue a righteous course despite the wicked agenda of King Saul and despite the questionable advice of his friends. The psalmist understood that the final chapter was not yet written, and in faith David declared in verse seven: " For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; HIS countenance doth behold the upright. "
As you read the morning paper, your troubled soul might have asked, " If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do ? "(v.3). The answer remains the same as in David's day: " In the LORD put I my trust " (v.1). Our present world is being radically changed by various "correctness doctrines" that disagree with GOD's righteous standards, but let us continue to stand up for righteousness and trust in the LORD.
