"Beating Swords into Plowshares"

Isaiah 2:1-5 "The WORD that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the GOD of Jacob; and HE will teach us of HIS ways, and we will walk in HIS paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the Law, and the WORD of the LORD from Jerusalem. And HE shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD."
Mankind naturally longs for peace. The false prophets of every generation have deceived the masses by saying, "Peace" when "there is no peace" (Ezekiel 13:10 pictured above; Ezekiel 13:16 pictured below). The LORD tells us, "There is no peace . . . to the wicked" (Isaiah 57:21). The Bible reveals that the Antichrist will enter the world scene with a great "peace" program for a society that is already conditioned to believe a lie. But only when the PRINCE of PEACE returns to rule and reign in righteousness will this sin-sick world enjoy true and lasting peace. Until then, believers must warn against religious and political leaders who devise unbiblical programs that they claim will bring about world peace. A so-called "peace statue" of a Russian peasant with the revolutionary communist symbol of the hammer and sickle stands in front of the United Nations headquarters, and Isaiah 2:4b is written out under the symbol -- what ignorance and what blasphemy !
Religious liberals pushing for peace at any price also quote today's text, even though they do not believe it is truly GOD's WORD in the first place. Furthermore, they are deceitful to quote only the middle portion of verse four while completely ignoring the context which clearly reveals that beating "swords into plowshares, and . . . spears into pruninghooks" describes the period of time after JESUS CHRIST comes back to this Earth to rule and reign in righteousness for a thousand years. It is therefore amazing and tragic to see so many citizens in the free world, including those who claim to be Christians, being deceived into supporting disarmament programs that will only benefit the workers of iniquity. Genuine peace can come only through CHRIST (Romans 5:1). MHR

"Forgiveness and Cleansing from Sin"

Isaiah 1:16-31 "Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before MINE eyes; cease to do evil; learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressors, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

How is the faithful city become an harlot ! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water: thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: everyone loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. Therefore saith the LORD, the LORD of hosts, the mighty ONE of Israel, Ah, I will ease ME of MINE adversaries, and avenge ME of MINE enemies: and I will turn MY hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin: and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness. And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed. For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen. For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water. And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them."
GOD is a holy GOD. HE never upholds sinners, nor does HE condone sin. GOD cannot lie, and, hence, HE must continually warn about sin. HIS WORD often pleads with sinners to flee from the wrath to come. The followers of some cults deny even the very existence of sin. Others align with certain social causes such as the Gay Pride movement and seek not only to justify sin but to "draw iniquity with cords of vanity" and "call evil good, and good evil" (Isaiah 5:18 pictured above; 5:20 pictured below). One of Satan's tactics is to make light of sin; in so doing, he blinds people to their need for salvation from sin's penalty since they question the very existence -- and therefore the consequences -- of sin. Why does the WORD of GOD contain so many negative statements against sin ? It is because until an individual admits that he is a sinner, he will not realize his need for a SAVIOR.
Today, it is common to "sugar coat" the Gospel by emphasizing the love of GOD and downplaying HIS judgment; leaders of many evangelistic ministries say that such tactics make it much easier to obtain "decisions" for CHRIST. But unless a person first experiences the HOLY SPIRIT's conviction of sin, his "decision" is apt to be in the head rather than from the heart -- a dangerous situation that leaves one with a false hope. When the true Gospel is preached faithfully, lost sinners hear the good news that, even though they are sinners and "the wages of sin is death," -- "For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON" (JESUS CHRIST) and that whosoever believes in HIM shall never perish (Romans 6:23a; John 3:16a). The Bible emphasizes not only the universality of sin and its eternal punishment but also the forgiveness that is available in CHRIST. MHR

" Satan ~ the god of this world "

Satan Controls the Lost Immoral.

I have talked to men and women behind prison bars and on skid row, with the ugly scars of sin showing in their faces and broken bodies. Most of them did not realize that Satan is the god of sin, and what power he has had over their lives. It is sad to see men and women with broken lives under the dominion of Satan.

Satan Controls the Lost Moral.

My Friend, we see on the other hand though, men and women that are good parents, first class citizens, fine moral leaders, and church members that are also under the dominion of Satan. It is hard to understand how these two classes of people could be under the dominion of the same person. The answer comes from GOD's WORD: "He that believeth on HIM is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten SON of GOD . . . He that believeth on the SON hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the SON shall not see life; but the wrath of GOD abideth on him." (John 3:18,36). Also, in 2nd.Corinthians 4:4 it tells us, "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of CHRIST, WHO is the image of GOD, should shine unto them."

Satan Controls False Teachers.

Satan has enough influence and power to keep a man from looking into the Bible and seeing that GOD's SON, JESUS CHRIST, gave HIS life for a sin-cursed world. "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of CHRIST. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." (2nd.Corinthians 11:13-14). In this Scripture, GOD reveals Satan as a deceiver, even working in religious fields, and that certain men have joined Satan to help in his work.
You may ask, "How can I tell false teachers from the true ones ?" False teachers will never mention the fact that JESUS CHRIST paid all their sin debt with HIS OWN precious blood. ". . .without [the] shedding of blood is no remission [of sin]." (Hebrews 9:22b). "Unto HIM that loved us, and washed us from our sins in HIS OWN blood," (Revelation 1:5b). They teach good works and church membership, but never tell you that you need to turn from your sin and trust in the work JESUS did to save you. "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3). "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;" (1st.Corinthians 15:3b). They laugh at sin and at the present and eternal damage that it does. "Fools make a mock at sin:" (Proverbs 14:9a). "For the wages of sin is death;" (Romans 6:23a). In a sense, you can measure a man's love for GOD by how much he hates sin.

JESUS has Power Over Satan !

You may ask, "How can I be saved ?" Only by GOD's power ! Let us read. "But thanks be to GOD, which giveth us the victory through our LORD JESUS CHRIST." (1st.Corinthians 15:57). "But as many as received HIM, to them gave HE power to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on HIS name:" (John 1:12). The Bible alone reveals the true work of JESUS CHRIST. In HIS death, burial and resurrection, HE took your place and completely paid for your sins so that you could escape and eternal punishment in a Devil's Hell for your sin.

You also may ask, "How can I receive GOD's forgiveness and promise of eternal life ?"

Acknowledge that you are a sinner, "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD" (Romans 3:23).

Believe that the LORD JESUS died for you, for "CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures" (1st.Corinthians 15:3).

Call upon the LORD to save you, "for whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved" (Romans 10:13).

If you would be willing to turn to CHRIST in repentance (turning to GOD from your sin) and faith, pray this simple prayer of salvation:

LORD, I know that I am a sinner, and I believe YOU died and rose again for me. I am trusting YOU to forgive me. Come into my heart and save me. Help me to live for YOU always. In JESUS' name I pray, AMEN.

The LORD JESUS said in John 5:24, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth MY WORD, and believeth on HIM that sent ME, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." Everlasting life is ours when we receive CHRIST as our own personal LORD and SAVIOR.

" From Narcotics to the NAZARENE "

A Prosperous Boy.
My life started in 1928, one cold day on December the 28th. That was a year of prosperity in America, just before the '29 crash. I grew up in a poor family financially, but a family of high morals with no drinking, dancing, or anything unclean. My daddy was a hard worker who had some small produce trucks. Every summer I was on one of them learning how to sell produce and make money. The desire to work and make money always had me. When I was eleven years old, I had a horse and wagon, and was peddling from house to house in Houston. I saved every dime, and when I was seventeen, I left home with a good truck that was paid for. Two years later I got my second truck. Then my trouble started.

A Prisoner of the Devil.
Since the age of seventeen, I had smoked marijuana, but not to excess. At eighteen, I took a few shots of dope, but this didn't satisfy me. I wanted some trucks, a pocketful of money, and a gang of hoodlum friends. Never did I want to be chained to some habit. At the age of twenty, heroin took her awful hold, and all I could do was not enough to shake it. I quit, left town, prayed, and asked preachers to pray for me, but I was chained by the Devil.
The years from twenty to twenty-five were the most horrible years of existence I had ever known or read about. My family was gone, the trucks were gone, and my so-called friends were gone. What was once a good kid was now a hopeless drug addict. After being in jail for vagrancy, theft, felony theft, burglary, and possession of heroin, I decided to take "a cure." I spent forty days in a hospital; however, two days after I was out, I had a needle in my arm. There was no cure. The federal man said, "Lady, forget this boy. There is no hope for him. Once a drug addict, always a drug addict. He is chained."

A Problem to Everyone.
The city I lived in never wanted me. Many times, some policeman would say, "Jack, go somewhere else." I was often in trouble or in jail for robbing, stealing, and writing bad checks. I was a real problem to everyone. One day my daughter came into the house and told my mother that the little girl next door could not play with her anymore, because her daddy was a dope fiend. Yes, no man lives to himself and no man dies to himself.
I decided that maybe the U.S. Army could help me. After nearly one year, with only eight-three good days spent in service, I was discharged with and undesirable discharge. Written across the bottom of the discharge paper were the words: "Reason for discharge - Narcotic." The Army took me in handcuffs to a J.C.Penney store, bought me a suit of clothes, gave me a train ticket, and sent me back to Texas.

Pardoned by JESUS CHRIST.
When I was in jail and the Army stockade, I would read the Bible. Many times, I went to a chaplain or preacher for help. I attended a Catholic church and later joined a Baptist church. I tried everything I knew. I prayed every day for GOD to help me be free from this addiction. When I moved from Texas to California, my mother wrote a letter to me telling of a friend who had been saved and was now Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cypress, California. Out of curiosity, I went to this church. This Pastor told me what GOD had done for him. I went regularly for a month to see if GOD could do the same for me.
On October 12, 1953, I went down to the altar, and on my knees, I asked CHRIST to save me from drugs, death, and a Devil's hell. I was not made perfect, but that day my load was lifted, and a desire was put in my heart to live for JESUS.

A Preacher of the Gospel.
I had only been saved about three weeks, when I knew that GOD wanted me to preach. I walked down the same aisle where I was saved and surrendered my life to JESUS for service. For twenty-two years I've tried to preach and live for HIM. It has not been a bed of roses, nor has it been glamorous. The rocks in my way have been many, but GOD has brought me on. This same thing can happen to you if you are willing to let JESUS CHRIST take over your life which you have wrecked - J.W.

GOD'S SIMPLE PLAN OF SALVATION
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of GOD;" (Romans 3:23)
"For GOD so loved the world, that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, that whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to HIS mercy HE saved us. . ." (Titus 3:5a)
". . .except ye repent (a turning to GOD from sin), ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3b)
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and where in ye stand; by which also ye are saved, . . .For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that HE was buried, and that HE rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:" (1st.Corinthians 15:1-2a,3-4)
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
"But as many as received HIM, to them gave HE power to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on HIS name." (John 1:12)
"Therefore if any man be in CHRIST, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2nd.Corinthians 5:17)

If you would be willing to turn to CHRIST in repentance and faith, pray this simple prayer of salvation:

LORD, I know that I am a sinner, and I believe YOU died and rose again for me. I am trusting YOU to forgive me. Come into my heart and save me, and help me to live for you always. In JESUS' name I pray, AMEN.

The LORD JESUS said, ". . .I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish. . ." ((John 10:28). Everlasting life is ours when we receive CHRIST as our personal LORD and SAVIOR.

" Sarah's Tent "

Genesis 24:63-67 "And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us ? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother' death."
Sarah has gone home to be with the LORD. Her remarkable life of faith has ended. She leaves behind a loving husband, a grown son, countless friends, and a tent. When Isaac took Rebekah as his wife the WORD of GOD says that he "brought her into his mother Sarah's tent." This tent was a testimony of a life that was lived by faith.
I can picture, in my mind's eye, Rebekah walking into "Sarah's tent" for the first time. On her journey from her home, Rebekah would have heard from Abraham's faithful servant telling her all about the "life of Sarah." Rebekah will now see for herself the testimony of this woman of faith in her tent.

What was the testimony Sarah left for her daughter-in-law ? As we learn more about this pioneer of faith may we ask ourselves this question: What are we leaving in our tents for the next generation ? Rebekah was to continue GOD's plan for the ages. What she learns from Sarah will help her have GOD's best.
What will Rebekah learn from the life of Sarah ? What Sarah learned about GOD is what every child of GOD needs to learn; GOD is all powerful, HE is all knowing, and HE is faithful.
GOD Has Power To Transform A Life

"And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: He staggered not at the promise of GOD through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to GOD; and being fully persuaded that, what HE had promised, HE was able to perform." Romans 4:19-21.

Sarah believed GOD was able to bring life to the deadness of her womb. The Bible says, "Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged HIM faithful WHO had promised." Hebrews 11:11 pictured above. One of the great lessons we learn, from the life of Sarah, is GOD has power to bring life when there is death.

GOD has power to touch a life and to change the world. Think about what GOD did when HE saved us. "And you hath HE quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins." Ephesians 2:1. Sarah's life had been transformed when she was converted. Sarah, like Abraham, came to the LORD later in life. She was around sixty-five when she ". . .Believed in the LORD. . ." Genesis 15:6

The Bible says, "Therefore if any man be in CHRIST, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2nd.Corinthians 5:17. Sarah's life was transformed when she was converted.

GOD gave Sarai a new name. "And GOD said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be." Genesis 17:15. She went from being "contentious" (Sarai) to "Princess" (Sarah).
GOD Knows The Future

The Bible says, "For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which GOD had spoken to him." Genesis 21:1-3. GOD knows the future. GOD said, "For this is the WORD of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son." Romans 9:9 pictured above. GOD knew Sarah's future and HE knows our future.

JESUS said, "I AM ALPHA and OMEGA, the beginning and the end." Revelation 21:6. HE knows our beginning and our ending. "By HIM all things consist." Colossians 1:17.

HIS timing is perfect. HE said, ". . .At this time will I come,. . ." Romans 9:9 pictured above. GOD knows what time it is in human history, (Galatians 4:4) and HE knows what time it is in our life. HE knows who we are, and HE knows where we are.

HIS truths are for all generations. The Bible says, "The counsel of the LORD standeth forever, the thoughts of HIS heart to all generations." Psalm 33:11. Rebekah needs to know that GOD is in control and that HE will guide her life and decisions. "And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;" Romans 9:10.
Another great lesson we learn from the life of Sarah is: The Soverenty of GOD.
GOD Is Faithful

The Bible says, "Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged HIM faithful WHO had promised." Hebrews 11:11. Sarah knew that GOD is faithful. She understood that HE would never leave nor forsake her. ". . .GOD is faithful. . ." 1st.Corinthians 10:13.

HE meets all our needs. The Bible says, "But my GOD shall supply all your need according to HIS riches in glory by CHRIST JESUS." Philippians 4:19. Sarah lived to see the LORD do all HE said that HE would do and so much more. "Faithful is HE that calleth you, WHO also will do it." 1st.Thessalonians 5:24 pictured above.

HE never forsakes us. GOD said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Hebrews 13:5. "But the LORD is faithful, WHO shall stablish you, and keep you from evil." 2nd.Thessalonians 3:3.
Lessons from Sarah's tent, from one mother (Sarah) to the next (Rebekah)

1. Every mother leaves behind something for the next generation, good or bad. "For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself." Romans 14:7. What are we leaving the next generation ? Will they learn how, by faith, we won the victory ? Will they learn how to overcome a bad beginning ?

2. A life that is lived by faith will make an impact on generations to come. Mary, the mother of JESUS said, "For HE hath regarded the low estate of HIS handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." Luke 1:48 pictured above. Never underestimate the power of one woman who is totally surrendered to the LORD. There are many great women in the Bible who touched generations to follow.

3. It is completely in our control how we will be remembered. The Bible tells us about, "a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and alms-deeds which she did. . .Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them." Acts 9:36,39.
Dorcas was a woman who was loved and missed because she chose to live for others. Mary chose to break her "alabaster box" for the LORD. Matthew 26:6-13. She was remembered for her acts of love and kindness.

When the story of our life is told, the most important part will be whether we knew the LORD, and what example did we leave for the next generation.

" The GREATEST Tragedy ! "

When we hear of catastrophes, earthquakes, floods, airplane crashes, etc., we are shocked at the resulting loss of so many human lives. But the greatest tragedy is for someone to die who could have been saved !
The judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah was terrible. Suddenly all the inhabitants were destroyed by fire and brimstone falling from Heaven. The greatest tragedy, however, was not that they perished, but that they could have been saved. Lot warned his sons-in-law in Genesis 19:14, but "he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law." And they died, although they could have been saved.

It was a worldwide catastrophe when the flood broke out. We read in the Bible, "The same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of Heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the Earth forty days and forty nights" (Genesis 7:11-12). How the people must have desperately fought to save their lives ! But JESUS said later on, "The flood came, and took them all away."
Was that the greatest tragedy ? No, what was worse was the fact that they had had the opportunity of salvation before their eyes for one hundred and twenty years. But JESUS said of them, "They knew not."  They let the LORD HIMSELF close the door of the ark without ever having used it.

We must see this clearly. According to the Law of the Bible, "There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). But GOD, in HIS great love with which HE has loved us, sent HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, and accomplished the greatest thing in the history of mankind. "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, . . .For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that HE was buried, and that HE rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:" (1st.Corinthians 15:1-2a,3-4).
HE brought forth salvation when HE shed HIS blood for your sins and mine on Calvary's cross. Not only did HE die, but HE also arose from the dead for our justification (Romans 4:25).

Now you can avoid the greatest tragedy. For almost 2000 years the LORD GOD has caused the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST to be preached throughout the world. The warning is going out even to this day, "We pray you in CHRIST's stead, be ye reconciled to GOD" (2nd.Corinthians 5:20).
The commission of the Church of JESUS CHRIST on Earth will soon reach its conclusion. The events which are taking place before our eyes fulfill so precisely the Prophetic WORD that even the simple cannot fail to see that we are living in the last times.

My question to you now is, have you accepted GOD's offer of mercy ? Have you received JESUS, WHO shed HIS blood for your sins, as your personal LORD and SAVIOR ? Are you saved for all eternity ? Perhaps you will say, "No," or, "I don't know." Then the greatest tragedy can befall you. What is that ? You will be eternally lost, separated forever from all that is good and loving. Avoid the greatest tragedy and come to JESUS this very day. "BEHOLD, NOW is the accepted time; BEHOLD, NOW is the day of salvation." (2nd.Corinthians 6:2b). The Bible also tells us in Isaiah 55:6, "Seek ye the LORD while HE may be found, call ye upon HIM while HE is near."

If there is darkness in your heart, if you are tormented by your past sins, if your conscience is sin-laden, you are being offered, in JESUS CHRIST, full forgiveness and a glorious salvation. JESUS said, "Him that cometh to ME I will in no wise cast out" (John 6:37). If you read these lines and know that this means you, then stop reading this post now and pray this simple prayer of salvation:

LORD, I know that I am a sinner, and I believe YOU died and rose again for me. I am trusting YOU to forgive me. Come into my heart and save me. Help me to live for YOU always. In JESUS' name I pray, AMEN.

Tell HIM in truth and repentance (a turning to GOD from your sin), "Yes, LORD JESUS, I accept YOU as my personal LORD and SAVIOR. Thus you will avert the greatest tragedy in your life, namely to be lost forever when you could have been eternally saved.
Of those in Noah's day, it is said, "They knew not." Of those in Lot's time, the Bible says, "He seemed. . .as one that mocked." NOW, what do you say ? -- Wim Malgo

"Understanding GOD's WORD"

2nd.Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto GOD, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the WORD of truth."
The study of theology has been considered a dreary affair by all too many contemporary Christians. It is alarming to hear statements such as the following: "Don't pay attention to doctrine, for doctrine divides; seek only to be an involved, loving, practical Christian." I shudder to think what that devilish philosophy will produce in the future, and, indeed, we are actually reaping a terrible harvest from such thinking even now within the church. We practice what we believe to be true, so doctrine does make a tremendous difference. It reveals the very purpose of our existence and, therefore, provides the means to experience fulfilled and fruitful lives. Thus, the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy in today's text, "Study to show thyself approved unto GOD, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the WORD of truth."
The Bible offers a systematic interpretation of history and covers its entire scope, from beginning to end, including the what and why of the future. It presents a unifying principle that ties together and makes sense of the whole gamut of events, distinctions, and successions. Therefore, it is imperative for every Christian to have a grasp of how to interpret ("rightly divide") the WORD of GOD. The Bible is not a disjointed book of stories and unrelated events. Rather, it demonstrates that history has an ultimate goal or purpose. It also explains why things have happened the way they have, why things are the way they are, and where things are going in the future. It offers the answers to man's three ultimate questions: 1. Where did we come from ? 2. Why are we here ? 3. Where are we going ? Make much of GOD's WORD and dig into it daily and deeply ! JED

"Redemption, Propitiation, Reconciliation"

Romans 5:8-10 "But GOD commendeth (shown forth) HIS love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, CHRIST died for us. Much more then, being now justified by HIS blood, we shall be saved from wrath through HIM. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to GOD by the death of HIS SON, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by HIS life."
Redemption, propitiation, and reconciliation are the three main concepts used in the New Testament to describe the effects of the death of CHRIST. Redemption means liberation because of a payment made and has special significance to believers since this payment was the death of CHRIST HIMSELF. We are redeemed from the marketplace of sin by the payment of a price: the blood of CHRIST. Thank GOD we are redeemed to a state of freedom -- but, we then willingly become the servants of CHRIST WHO saved us. Propitiation means satisfying the wrath of GOD by the atoning sacrifice of CHRIST. In HIS sacrifice, CHRIST is seen as the PROPITIATOR (Hebrews 9:11-12 pictured above), the PROPITIATION (1st.John 2:2; 4:10), and the PLACE of propitiation (Hebrews 9:5; Romans 3:25).
The doctrine of redemption teaches that the cross-work of CHRIST dealt with our condition of slavery to sin, and propitiation speaks of our escaping GOD's wrath. The doctrine of reconciliation indicates that our hostility toward GOD has been changed -- from enmity to harmony. Because of sin, GOD and man are in a hostile relationship. Prior to salvation, we were enemies of GOD (v.10), and as such, we were the objects of HIS wrath (v.9). The New Testament declares that reconciliation came through the death of JESUS (v.10). GOD is the ONE WHO is active in reconciliation (2nd.Corinthians 5:18-19) while man is (passive tense) "reconciled to GOD" (2nd. Corinthians 5:20 pictured above), having been in opposition against HIM. In CHRIST's death redemption, propitiation, and reconciliation were provisionally made; they become actual when saving faith is exercised (1st.Peter 1:18-19; 1st.John 2:2; 2nd.Cor. 5:19) Praise the LORD for HIS perfect salvation from start to finish ! " Final Plea "

Lamentations 5:1-22 "Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach. Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us. Our necks are under persecution: we labor, and have no rest. We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.

Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand. We get our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness. Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine. They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah. Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honored. They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood. The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music.

The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning. The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned ! For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim. Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it. THOU, O LORD, remainest forever; THY throne from generation to generation. Wherefore dost THOU forget us forever, and forsake us so long time ? Turn THOU us into THEE, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old. But THOU has utterly rejected us; THOU art very wroth against us."
The first three chapters of Lamentations each conclude with a prayer to GOD; however, chapter four does not. In this fifth chapter, which may be chapter four's concluding prayer, we find Jeremiah once again reviewing the situation in the nation of Judah (vv.1-18). He begins this prayer with the word "Remember." GOD did not need reminding of what had been happening. The Babylonian invasion did not catch HIM by surprise. HE could see the condition of the people (Proverbs 15:3 pictured at top of post). So, why does Jeremiah express his thoughts this way ? The word "remember" here conveys more than simply imploring someone to recall something. Rather, it is a plea for action to be taken. Jeremiah wants GOD to do something about this situation. The prophet acknowledges that the nation had previously sought help from the wrong sources (v.6) and was now facing the consequences (vv.7-18). They were enduring a severe famine (vv.7-10). No one was able to escape this judgment (vv.11-14), and great turmoil and sorrow affected even the godly (vv.15-18). The only possible hope was in the LORD (v.19 pictured above). Jeremiah knows the state of the nation is temporary and that GOD would one day change it, but that surely appeared to be a long way off (vv.20-22).
What is your current condition in terms of your relationship with the LORD ? Are you a child of GOD ? Do you know HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, as your personal LORD and SAVIOR ? Perhaps you are a believer and are struggling with some difficulty not knowing where to go for help or comfort. Turn to the LORD. Trust in HIM exclusively (Lamentations 3:22-25).  "Turn THOU us unto THEE, O LORD" (v.21a pictured in full above). HE alone is the ultimate SOLVER of every problem ! GDF

" Who Is to Blame ? "

Lamentations 4:14-22 "They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments. They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there. The anger of the LORD hath divided them; HE will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favored not the elders. As for us, our eyes are yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come. Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness. The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under HIS shadow we shall live among the heathen. Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz: the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked. The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; HE will no more carry thee away into captivity; HE will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; HE will discover thy sins."
Who was at fault for this judgment upon Jerusalem ? While the political rulers of the nation certainly had to be held accountable (Lam.2:9). Jeremiah recognized that the messages being given by GOD's prophets were vain, or empty. Such men were predicting "foolish things for THEE" (Lam.2:14 pictured above). Sadly, the people chose to listen to the lies they were being told -- that everything would turn out fine, that Babylon would not actually destroy the city, that the temple's treasures would soon be returned (Jeremiah 28:1-4, 10-11). It was not long before reality set in, and the situation became evident to all that these prophets had lied to the people (vv.14-20). They would witness no restoration of the glory of the temple, nor would they see the kingdom in its former splendor or even anything remotely close to it. The LORD's anger was so great that, in the end, these false prophets were essentially regarded like lepers (vv.14-15).
A proper interpretation of the Bible reveals that the LORD has chosen only one nation above all others: Israel (Romans 3:1-2; Isaiah 40:2). He holds her to a very high standard. However, the Bible also informs the other peoples of the world concerning their purpose and role in the plan and program of GOD in this age. Have you ever stopped to consider that if the LORD judged Israel and all the other nations of that time, HE also will judge our country and all others in this present time ? We must not think that our nation or any other is immune from divine reckoning. GOD will judge the world in righteousness by "that MAN" WHOM HE has appointed (Acts 17:31 pictured above). Knowing this, let us earnestly and fervently pray for our governmental leaders today (1st.Timothy 2:1-8). GDF
