"Understanding GOD's WORD"

2nd.Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto GOD, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the WORD of truth."
The study of theology has been considered a dreary affair by all too many contemporary Christians. It is alarming to hear statements such as the following: "Don't pay attention to doctrine, for doctrine divides; seek only to be an involved, loving, practical Christian." I shudder to think what that devilish philosophy will produce in the future, and, indeed, we are actually reaping a terrible harvest from such thinking even now within the church. We practice what we believe to be true, so doctrine does make a tremendous difference. It reveals the very purpose of our existence and, therefore, provides the means to experience fulfilled and fruitful lives. Thus, the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy in today's text, "Study to show thyself approved unto GOD, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the WORD of truth."
The Bible offers a systematic interpretation of history and covers its entire scope, from beginning to end, including the what and why of the future. It presents a unifying principle that ties together and makes sense of the whole gamut of events, distinctions, and successions. Therefore, it is imperative for every Christian to have a grasp of how to interpret ("rightly divide") the WORD of GOD. The Bible is not a disjointed book of stories and unrelated events. Rather, it demonstrates that history has an ultimate goal or purpose. It also explains why things have happened the way they have, why things are the way they are, and where things are going in the future. It offers the answers to man's three ultimate questions: 1. Where did we come from ? 2. Why are we here ? 3. Where are we going ? Make much of GOD's WORD and dig into it daily and deeply ! JED
