Romans 1:21-25 "And changed the glory of the uncorruptible GOD into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore GOD also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of GOD into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the CREATOR, WHO is blessed for ever. Amen."
The LORD created man with an extraordinary intellect. However, the mind of man became corrupted when Adam and Eve accepted Satan's lies of GOD's perfect wisdom (Genesis 3:1-7). Our text explains the result of rejecting GOD's wisdom: "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (v.22). The LORD repeatedly warns about such folly: "Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight" (Isaiah 5:21); "thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee" (Isaiah 47:10 pictured above). Even though history bears testimony to the catastrophic results of disregarding GOD's revealed truth, man still continues to ignore HIS warnings and chooses to reject HIS wisdom. How common it is to hear people say, "Well, I believe this" or, "That seems okay to me." Sadly, most prefer to trust man's wisdom (whether their own or someone else's) rather than the LORD's --what a tragic mistake !
In contrast to GOD's perfect wisdom, which always produces beneficial results, man's wisdom changes "the truth of GOD into a lie" (v.25). While man's sagacity (intelligence) has led to some amazing developments in various fields -- in communication, transportation, medicine, and other scientific disciplines -- his accomplishments have never benefited the innermost needs of man's heart. Instead, we can see around us an almost complete breakdown of morality in society accompanied by increasing fear, frustration, and discouragement. GOD speaks to this issue: "They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge" (Jeremiah 4:22 pictured above). Never reject nor neglect the written WORD of GOD, for Scripture is the sole source for ALL the wisdom we so desperately need. MHR
