Romans 1:14-17 "I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the Gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of CHRIST: for it is the power of GOD unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of GOD revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith."
The Gospel has monumental power: "It is the power of GOD unto salvation to every one that believeth" (v.16). Only one message has such power. No other gospel can bring spiritual life to those who are "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2:1 pictured at top of post). All other gospels are false, and those who preach them are under GOD's curse (Galatians 1:6-12 pictured above). We cannot compromise the message of GOD 's grace by adding works to it -- this mixed message will save no one. The Gospel does not need to be modified or made more palatable to unbelievers. As simple as the Gospel is, the unsaved cannot understand and accept it without the illuminating power of the HOLY SPIRIT WHO reveals the sinner's need and the SAVIOR's provision to meet that need. The believer's responsibility is to "preach the Gospel" (v.15) -- the one pure, powerful proclamation of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in the person and work of JESUS CHRIST alone (Ephesians 2:8-9 Pictured below). This glorious message is "the power of GOD unto salvation" (v.16).
Sadly, many religious leaders today claim that the Gospel message alone does not have sufficient power to reach many in the modern world, so they have devised "positive" approaches, psychological approaches, and even "miraculous" approaches that will supposedly meet modern man in his modern context. These sorry efforts not only impugn the inherent power of GOD in the Gospel message itself but also waste millions of dollars in so-called evangelistic efforts that the LORD will not bless. The Gospel does not need redefinition or culturalization. Its faithful proclamation, in true power and purity, is wholly sufficient to save. Are we declaring this good news to others ? MHR
