"JESUS CHRIST Is . . . Series Part 3 of 8"

1st.Peter 2:4-6 & 5:4 "To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of GOD, and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to GOD by JESUS CHRIST. Wherefore also it is contained in the Scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a CHIEF CORNER STONE, elect, precious: and he that believeth on HIM shall not be confounded. . .And when the CHIEF SHEPHERD shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away."
The CHIEF CORNERSTONE - Ancient builders constructed their edifices around one stone that they firmly anchored to the foundation. This "cornerstone" was the centerpiece of the building. The placement of every other stone was dependent upon a proper alignment with the cornerstone. In today's text, Peter quotes Isaiah 28:16 and attributes this Old Testament reference to the person of JESUS CHRIST, "a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation." Both Peter and Paul refer to JESUS as the "CHIEF CORNER STONE" (cf. Ephesians 2:20 pictured above). As our CHIEF CORNERSTONE, HE will never move and is unchangeable. As believers, we are living stones (v.5) who are built up around the person, work, and WORD of JESUS CHRIST. Everything we do, think, and say should conform to HIS revealed will. If we fail to align ourselves with the CHIEF CORNERSTONE, then we will not fit in the building as we should (Ephesians 2:21-22 pictured above).
The CHIEF SHEPHERD - JESUS is also the "CHIEF SHEPHERD." While GOD has called some believers to serve as Pastors, or "Undershepherds" of HIS flock, all believers answer directly to the CHIEF SHEPHERD. A shepherd's role is clear-cut: he feeds, guides, protects, and cares for the sheep. Our wonderful SHEPHERD feeds us through the milk and meat of HIS WORD, the Bible. HE guides us by chastening us when we wander astray. HE protects us by revealing the tactics of the "wolves in sheep's clothing" who seek to destroy the flock and by warning about fake shepherds who teach false doctrine in an attempt to steal sheep (Acts 20:28-30 pictured above). No greater SHEPHERD exists than CHRIST, for HE is the caring, omnipotent GOD WHO will never lose any of HIS sheep (John 10:27-29). MDC
