"JESUS CHRIST Is . . . Series Part 6 of 8"

Matthew 1:20-23 "But while he thought on these things, behold, the Angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the HOLY GHOST. And she shall bring forth a SON, and thou shalt call HIS name JESUS; for HE shall save HIS people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the LORD by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with CHILD, and shall bring forth a SON, and they shall call HIS name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, GOD with us."
The SAVIOR - Prior to JESUS' birth, an angel told Joseph that Mary was going to bare a SON and they were to name HIM "JESUS" (v.21), meaning "SAVIOR." This SON was not an ordinary person, for HE was conceived supernaturally by the HOLY SPIRIT (v.20) and would "save HIS people from their sins" (v.21) - the promised MESSIAH !  A savior is one who rescues people from danger or a threat. Every individual born into the world is in grave danger as a result of his inherent sin nature and state of spiritual death that leads to eternal torment in the Lake of Fire. But JESUS came to Earth to rescue man from this spiritual death by offering eternal life to all who trust in HIM alone for salvation. The Samaritans said of JESUS, "We . . . know that this is indeed the CHRIST, the SAVIOR of the world (John 4:42 pictured above). Our rescue from sin and its damnation is only through the person and work of JESUS, "the SAVIOR of the world" !
EMMANUEL - The angel revealed that the birth of JESUS would fulfill the prophecy given in Isaiah 7:14; "They shall call HIS name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, GOD with us" (v.23). This BABY conceived in Mary was not just another human but GOD HIMSELF WHO came to Earth to live and die as the GOD-man. Today, many recognize JESUS as merely a good man or a moral example. But the true, historic JESUS was/is GOD HIMSELF in the flesh. HE possessed the full nature of GOD but emptied HIMSELF of HIS visible glory when HE humbly descended to life among fallen mankind in order to offer HIMSELF as a sacrifice for sin (Philippians 2:5-8 pictured above). GOD dwelt among men. While JESUS is spiritually with us now, man will once again enjoy HIS physical presence yet future (Revelation 21:3). MDC
